Sweet Potato Falafel Bites
Sweet potato falafel bites are the kind of snack that can become a quick lunch, a party plate, or an easy add-on to a simple salad. They bring warm spice, soft sweet potato, crisp edges, and a cool lemon herb dip without making the recipe feel heavy.
This version keeps the flavor bright while using careful swaps for a Low-FODMAP-friendly, gluten-free, and lactose-free approach. Garlic-infused oil replaces fresh garlic, white rice flour replaces plain flour, and lactose-free Greek-style yogurt keeps the dip creamy.
Bake a tray, serve them warm, and let the sesame seeds add a light crunch on the outside. They are small enough to snack on, but satisfying enough to build into a fresh plate with cucumber, greens, herbs, and lemon.

How to Make It
- Cook the sweet potato. Place the sweet potato chunks in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on high for 8 to 10 minutes, or until tender, then cool for 10 minutes.
- Preheat the oven. Preheat oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and lightly coat it with cooking spray or garlic-infused olive oil.
- Mash the base. Add the cooked sweet potato to a mixing bowl and mash until mostly smooth. A few small pieces are fine and help the bites keep texture.
- Add the flavor. Stir in the egg, rice flour, cilantro, garlic-infused oil, cumin, ground coriander, allspice, salt, and pepper. Mix until the mixture holds together.
- Chill the mixture. Refrigerate for 15 minutes so the mixture firms up. If it still feels too soft, add 1 tablespoon of rice flour at a time.
- Shape the bites. Scoop the mixture into 16 small balls or patties. Place them on the prepared baking sheet and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
- Bake until lightly crisp. Brush or spray the tops with a little garlic-infused olive oil. Bake for 18 to 22 minutes, turning once halfway through, until lightly golden at the edges.
- Make the dip. In a small bowl, stir together the lactose-free yogurt, lemon juice, paprika, mint, cilantro, olive oil, salt, and pepper. Chill until ready to serve.
- Serve warm. Plate the falafel bites with the lemon herb yogurt dip, cucumber slices, greens, lemon wedges, and extra herbs.
