Why Are Prebiotics Important for a Healthy Gut Microbiome?

Science Behind Tomorrow's Nutrition

What are the benefits of Sunfiber® GI?
What Exactly Is Sunfiber® GI and Why Is It Good for Gut Health?
A synbiotic blend of clinically proven prebiotic fiber and probiotics that help support healthy digestive balance.* Sunfiber® GI uses the award-winning Sunfiber® soluble dietary fiber and the clinically studied Bifidobacterium lactis. It is available in convenient on-the-go stick packs (7 and 30 count) or powder.
The human digestive tract harbors trillions of bacteria. Most of these are beneficial, and we call them probiotics. Maintaining balance is critical to health, but diet, travel, medications, stress, and aging often disrupt it. This can lead to digestive discomfort and a weakened immune system. Supplementing with probiotics helps replenish these friendly bacteria and support digestive and immune health.*
Each serving provides 8 billion CFU of Bifidobacterium lactis (B. lactis) at time of manufacture. This well-researched probiotic works in harmony with Sunfiber®. It is highly resistant to gut pH and bile conditions, and has been shown to support immune function.*
Sunfiber® GI may be taken any time of day, though many prefer it first thing in the morning to get digestion on track for the day. Mix into cereal, yogurt, smoothies, or add to your water bottle for on- the-go support.
Yes. Each serving contains 6 grams of Sunfiber® and 8 billion CFU of B. lactis. Sunfiber® is GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) and approved as a fiber source by the FDA, Health Canada, and other authorities.
One serving equals 5 grams of fiber. The recommended daily fiber intake is 25 grams for women and 38 grams for men. Sunfiber® GI helps bridge the gap between dietary intake and those daily recommendations.
Yes. Sunfiber® GI is all-natural. It contains only Sunfiber® (a plant-based fiber) and B. lactis - no preservatives or additives. It is Clean Label Project Certified, Non-GMO Project Verified, and 100% gluten-free.
Each serving contains just 10 calories.
Sunfiber® GI contains highly stable probiotics. Store in a cool, dry place away from excess light, heat, and moisture. Refrigeration is optional.
About Sunfiber®
Sunfiber® is an all-natural, regulating soluble dietary fiber derived from the guar bean. Sunfiber® acts as the perfect food source for probiotics, helping increase beneficial bacteria and reduce harmful bacteria in the gut.*
Insoluble fiber adds bulk to stool (found in grains, nuts, seeds, and fruit skins). Soluble fiber dissolves in water. The right soluble fiber supports digestion, feeds good bacteria, moderates glucose levels, helps lower cholesterol, and promotes satiety. Some soluble fibers, however, ferment too quickly, causing gas, bloating, or even diarrhea. Sunfiber® is a soluble, low-FODMAP fiber that supports digestive health without these side effects.*
Prebiotics are food for probiotics. The right prebiotic fiber is essential for probiotics to thrive - but it must be gentle and well tolerated. Sunfiber® is unique among fibers: it ferments steadily, producing more short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) over time, without causing excess gas or bloating.*
Sunfiber® is a prebiotic fiber that is unique in comparison to other dietary fibers. A prebiotic fiber is one that produces "short chain fatty acids" (SCFA) in the gut via a fermentation process. The rate of production of SCFAs is very important. If fermentation occurs rapidly (as is the case with inulin and other soluble fibers) the result is excess bloating and flatulence. The fermentation process of Sunfiber® is steady resulting in a higher total amount of SCFAs that are produced over a greater period of time, leading to significantly less gas, bloating and discomfort.
SCFAs are small compounds produced by fermentation of dietary fiber by gut bacteria. The three primary SCFAs are acetate, propionate, and butyrate. Butyrate fuels the cells of the colon and supports intestinal health.*
Guar gum is a viscous, water-soluble carbohydrate from the guar seed, used in foods as a thickener and stabilizer. Sunfiber®is a non-viscous form called partially hydrolyzed guar gum (PHGG). It dissolves completely in liquids and is used as a gentle fiber source in supplements and functional foods.
FODMAPs (fermentable oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides, and polyols) are poorly absorbed sugars that may trigger digestive discomfort in those with IBS or other functional GI disorders. Many high-fiber foods are also high in FODMAPs, making it difficult to meet daily fiber needs. Sunfiber® is proud to be the first prebiotic fiber to achieve Low-FODMAP Certification by Monash University.
Taking Sunfiber®
At recommended dosages, side effects like gas, bloating, or diarrhea are virtually nonexistent.
25 grams/day for women and 38 grams/day for men, yet most people only get 10–15 grams. Sunfiber® GI helps close this gap.
The typical recommended single serving of Sunfiber® GI is 6 grams. The current adequate intake for dietary fiber is 25 grams/day for women and 38 grams/day for men. The daily amount of Sunfiber® GI that should be consumed by healthy people looking to meet the daily recommended level of fiber would be the difference between their fiber intake from food and that of the recommended fiber intake for men and women.
Sunfiber® may be taken at any time of the day but is often recommended to take first thing in the morning to get your digestive system on track for a comfortable and healthy day. Take with your morning cereal, yogurt, smoothie or add to your water bottle to take with you on the go.
Sunfiber® is safe and has long been used during pregnancy and lactation, though you should consult your healthcare practitioner before use.
Appropriate for all ages above 9 months. One 6-gram serving is recommended.
Sunfiber® is stable in hot foods and beverages, but heat can reduce probiotic activity. For best results, add to lukewarm or cool foods and beverages.
